After the shopping frenzy, the excess food, endless chatter and extensive family time, like everything else in life the holiday rollercoaster must also inevitably come to a close. Having said this, what better way is there to end it than by celebrating the much-anticipated arrival of the Three Kings? A strong Christian tradition, in Spain this day is actually considered even more important than Christmas itself for many families and is a cherished national holiday.

According to the nativity scenes, three Wise Men visit Jesus after his birth, bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Today, in many Christian countries presents are still exchanged but need not be as glamorous or expensive (unless you want them to be of course). The solution to the gift problem can be quite simple, wake up on the morning of the 6th of January to find that special someone in your life really appreciated your present this year, even if it wasn’t necessarily made of gold. Something like a tray for delicious breakfasts in bed can show them how much you care. After all, it’s the little details that can really turn an ordinary day into a special memory for both of you to share together. It is also quite the practical piece for the house, to be enjoyed for many years to come.

As January approaches however, Kings and presents are not the only thing on our minds. All good things must come to an end and unfortunately so will the holidays. When we go back to reality, back to school and to work as usual we need to find ways to make the transition a little easier and smoother. After such a long break it can be hard to adapt to our routines. The New Year also calls for new objectives that can be achieved with the correct mind-set and even the right desk accessories to speed the process along. Opt for a stylish leather desk mat or an elegant cup for pens and small items. Indeed, resolutions can be difficult to fulfil: useful, stylish items that keep your desk tidy can ensure a more organised and tidy mind as well.  Also, remember to choose your goals carefully and not to go overboard with the number of things you want to change, strive to be realistic at all times even if it can seem hard.  This will ensure a higher rate of success and an easier return to reality overall.

Surely January means different things to different people: family time and the arrival of the Wise Men, the tradition of the gifts the following morning, the challenge of setting and accomplishing goals or simply the chance to start a new year and a blank slate. Regardless of what the month represents to you specifically, try to keep calm and enjoy it as much as all the ones that follow. January doesn’t have to be an anti-climax, a reminder that Christmas is a year away, but rather a symbolic month that represents new beginnings and personal ambitions. If the prospect of change however does not seem appealing at all (humans tend to be creatures of habit), then just remember that Easter is around the corner and you will soon be on holiday again.
